Schools Encourage their Wildlife Neighbours
Lucy Group is a keen supporter of both education and biodiversity. Our two Castings’ sites recently combined the two interests by donating hedgehog, insect and bird houses to local primary schools. They also gave feeders and a supply of food to encourage the wildlife to take up residence. The aim is to encourage, inspire and educate the children about the importance of wildlife to the environment.
The new homes for the wild creatures were enthusiastically received by the staff and children of St John the Evangelist School in West Oxfordshire, UK and Rounds Green Primary School, Oldbury, UK. St John the Evangelist is next to the nearby playpark with its many trees and shrubs. Hopefully this area is already popular with local wildlife and the use of the wildlife shelters and feeders at the school, situated on their ‘green’ area should attract much more.
St John the Evangelist school said, “Thank you so much for your kind donation. Year 1 have enjoyed considering the best places to site the hedgehog house, bird feeders and bug hotel. We are waiting to see if anyone moves in.’
